GOOD BYE LADY LUCK (read time 1:53)
So perhaps you’re thinking if you’re “lucky” enough, some day you’ll make it. Really? Do you really think that? Still, after all these years? After all the times she’s let you down, you still believe that Lady Luck really cares about you? I’m not sure. She’s never around in the beginning of a project when you really need her; yet she’s always there to claim the credit AFTER the prize has been won. People always say, “Boy, were you lucky,” or “Man, were they lucky,” or they walk away in a huff and proclaim, “Some people have all the luck!” Our hard work and dedication seldom get the credit, because “Lady Luck” always grabs the perk AFTER the fact. Heck, she even shows up at the Academy Awards and claims the credit right on TV, saying “I feel so “LUCKY” to be among such a talented group of nominees.”

Many years ago I read Stephen King's book, "On Writing" - a great read. I loved his take on your muse.. basically, don't wait on your muse, instead, show up at the same time and place so your muse knows where to find you! I wrote this blog entry in response: The Writer Defined, the search for the silver bullet, and stroking the muse.. http://www.mattmoranonline.com/2005/09/17/writer-defined-the-search-for-the-silver-bullet-and-stroking-the-muse/ Thanks for the great posts.. I look forward to them.

I love my muse. I don't know where it comes from, but it comes up with great songs. I recently decided to take action again, been hiding from the cold (Its winter down under) and bought some goal setting software for my iPad, which I have loaded a pile of goals into. Am working towards a plan including recording some of my new songs in the studio and getting them heard in some clubs around town.

Hi Michael! I think that is a nice post. I agree, luck, fame, is fickle, like the wind, always changing and so quickly..who can build a foundation on this...wisdom, however, is aged, and lasting, secure and helpful. Wisdom, however does not come except through trial and humility, perhaps suffering...but with hope, because it knows that in the end, goodness is recieved. Thank you Michael. Rachel

Here is a song I wrote: "Jubal was a boy with a lot on his mind; Muse was the girl that he was lucky to find. She listened to all the things that he had to say; and took him out every day. It all started late one night in the rain; Jubal saw the Muse and he was never the same. He picked up his instrument and started to sing, then broke his only string! How aMUSEing!" (next verse) "Jubal sang of Muse and it was 'number-one'; And everybody knew Jubal under the sun. Had a 6-string bow made of rock and roll; and blues down in his soul. You can hear him playin' every night until 2; At the local bar or local chat-and-chew. Singing of his Muse and all that she can do . . . and all she's put him through! Still aMUSEing!" Jubal is the name of the Biblical character who invented music, btw. Thanks for the blog. I always read and enjoy, whether I manage to respond or not. Larry

If a house is on fire is it still on fire if you refuse to acknowledge it??? Would anyone buy my commercial building in Prescott that cost me 300k that I would let go for 150k and lease back for 14 grand a year? The answer to my first question is yes, the answer to the second question is nobody believes this stuff anymore.

The muse is the only reason I'm in this f*cked up business. It is the only thing that keeps me going in it. She's one of life's biggest thrills.

The line "and the truth is she only exists when you say she does." is right on Michael!

I find it difficult to separate the noise in my head with the whisper of my muse. Maybe that's because I'm lucky:-)

I love the line "silence your inner critic and heed her soft whisper of wisdom." Thank you Michael for once for once again reminding me to not listen to that voice in my head, and heed the wisdom of my heart.
