ALL IN (Read time 0:33)
I don’t play poker but my former business partner Eric does. He didn’t follow the fad—he’s been playing since 1971—he’s got trophies. He always tells me “it’s not so much the cards you get, it’s how you play them. Some play‘em cool and safe, while others play’em assertive & cocky.” Sound familiar? Sound like your life? Whether it’s playing poker, scoring a film or running your company, we’re all sitting at the poker table of our own choosing. And at that table you’ll always find Courage & Confidence sitting right across from Doubt & Fear, all waiting, watching, planning, strategizing to see how the next opportunity will play out. What’s at stake? Just your destiny, that’s all. Whenever I ask Eric, what are the chances of winning at poker in the long run, he always says, “0% unless you play the game with an “all in” attitude."
So with regard to your creative career do you play the game with an “all in” attitude?

all in
To be "all in" you've got to go ' all out" all the time. However, to be Happy simply requires " breathing "... the simple act of giving and recieving, consciously. We never stop to consider we are ALL IN all the time , by simply breathing- unconsciously. We never attach goals of fame or fortune to the simple act of breathing, but without it we cease to exist, and yet exist we do - effortlessly. Why is everything ELSE in life such an effort? Why does so much in life related to career and goals rob us of the happiness we enjoy by simply BEING.Make your goals joyful. Bring Joy to your relationships and enjoy the journey.Songwriting is a joy. Finding FUNDING to record the song... not so joyful, but it's own reward.

Half measures
"Half measures availed us nothing" - is a phrase I hear often from my friends and I think that says it all. However, to me, that says much more about the level of emotional commitment than anything else. Sure, I need to be willing to go to any lengths to achieve my goals but I'm rarely asked to give up anything that won't be replaced with something better. So, although I'm "all in" there is no sacrifice unless I choose to be the victim of my art through impatience and lack of faith.

"All-In" in a DIY World
Iím running out of ideas on how to go all-in. I've made big investments. I've already put my financial future at risk, my health at risk, my family at risk and my own dreams at risk. I intend on making a lot of money to achieve my goals, and I donít care which industry that Iím involved with takes off first. Iím goal-driven. I know this is a DIY world, but I'm beginning to see that most people who preach this are advisors, investors and established industry veterans who actually mean DIA-"Do It Alone and I'll jump on when you're an unmistakable asset." I get that it's a business, but I would be sad for the people I care about in my affiliated industries to miss out on something special because they didnít go all-in.

And the guitar stands....
The road was hot and dry, her mouth parched from thirst. She slipped on a rock but her dusty guitar held her up..Night was setting in ; her heart beat was pounding like a drum. She lay down and strummed a longing chord with her broken fingernail..to her last breath.......................................

All in Mentality
As a testament to the All In mentality, my thoughts are: i've been writing music for 10 years now. I'm currently 29. At every single moment I was sure that today could be the day that one of my tunes takes off. there have been many frustrating days and many amazing soaring days. No matter how many times my family members tell me that writing music is just a hobby. I'm getting close to 10,000 hours of practice. I wrote a nationally aired jingle, have had 3 songs signed by labels and released 2 music videos. It's taken 10 years of an all in mentality to develop my craft to get to this point. I still haven't had any grammy winning success, but I can taste it, it's so close. All in. He who wins 1, can win 2.

All In
For what it's worth...the only thing I'd add is that "all in" for the "long term" is a bit different than the usual way of thinking about the concept. For example, my musical pursuits at this point encompass a 30 year period of time. At different points I was "all in" with a band, but when that failed I was left with the decision to pack it in or hang in there & move to a different path (solo singer/songwriter). Then that presented new "all in" situations, which moved me to yet another square on the chess board, so to speak. "All in" might mean different phases, I guess is what I'm trying to say. WORTH IT!!!

Poker Pie
I only play poker a few times a year just for the fun of it. We put on silly hats and play for pennies. My instinct tells me what cards to keep or discard. Does that describe my life ? !!! In composing and singing, instinct first and coming back to planet earth second. In marketing strategy first BUT tune in tune in tune in. Your instinct will be your tool to know if something will come of a certain venture.Nope Poker doesn't influence how my life flows. Swimming and biking does but that's another topic .

I play poker 2-3 times a week. I'm up for the year. I think I'm a much better player at life simply because I'm a good poker player. I use the same stratigy in life as I do poker.

One the one hand I don't treat my career like a game of chance. On the other hand doubt and fear always seem to be close by influencing my decisions.

usually I hold some back...just in case... and now I'm "onto" my strategy, cause if I "fail," it's because I didn't give it ALL.It gives me an excuse to fail, instead of giving me a chance to WIN!!!!
