INDUSTRY MELT DOWN (READ TIME 1:37)
Back in the day, my employees & staffers would always remind me:
Never Stop Just Because Of A Holiday
Yep, you're right Mike. Yeah, we need to take some time out but we should keep the fire burning as musicians, artists, agents or record label publicist's. And people wonder why they never succeed? I once read an interview on Ice-T who talked about being at a party and had to take care of business. I wasn't a case of I'll take care of it tomorrow. He knew if he didn't tend to something he may not be in business anymore. I hope everyone on Mike's blog focuses on what they need to do in their music biz, and be damned the naysayers who say you'll never succeed. Focus on your effort, not your passion exclusively. Yeah, it may be a hobby you love, but force yourself to make it a business. That's what I did.

Michael row the boat ashore
Michael,I remember when I first came to L.A. there were not a bunch of places you could learn about how the music industry really worked. Most groups felt like they were in the dark about important matters. Then came your marvelous magazine, Music Connection in 1977. Entertaining and informative, we could finally learn about the latest opportunities and happenings in one place. You have helped so many artists through the years, I'm definitely one of them. One friend of mine was looking for work, I told him to take out an ad in MC. He did and was hired by Elton. This industry is like a big boat of artists waiting for wind to fill our sails. Meanwhile, Michael row the boat ashore. Land ho!

Working on holidays/Holy-days
Dead on Michael and I might add one more group to the list of creative folks who 'kept the light on' through what we call the Holidays....all of the great free thinkers that we have built religions and Holidays around! Those people...Jesus, Budda, Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Confucious, Plato, Aristotle...and the list goes on, we're free thinking spirit traveling adventurers not afraid to walk away or confront the norm....whichever was necessary to follow their convictions or 'muse' if you will!

Slow Season???
I don't know about other folks but I sell fun stuff (music and merch) and this is the season for selling!!! I'm in the process of recording a few holiday songs to release in the beginning of Dec. and I should have booked some holiday parties, New Year's, etc. Just because my business is transitioning is no reason to not take advantage of holiday spending! If you want to *be* a Big Dog you have to *think and act* like a big dog.

Creativity and those who create are an essential tribe of energy and production for commerce and community.

downtimes
There is never a downtime in business. If there is a week or few weeks of slowing, you use that time to write articles, make/evaluate your strategy, or take a vacation (which is important). There are always opportunities for the creative.

Turn it up!
The flame is on and the heat is turned up! I may be distracted momentarily By thoughts of what Iíll bring to the potluck, but Iíll keep cookiní ideas while Iím cookiní the turkey.

Ideas invited
Well said, Michael!!! While I visit with my family and party with friends, I will keep a pen and cocktail napkin, or my Iphone ready to record any Ideas that come to the party.
