Refried Art (Read time 0:29)
I've never missed a holiday season without watching some version of “Scrooge: A Christmas Carol.” To date there are 39-different theater productions, 22-different film versions, 27-different “made for TV” adaptions, 3-opera's, 7-record albums, 14-different radio productions, 6-parody productions and 63 “plot” adaptions—making it one of the most remade, rehashed, reinvented, rewritten scripts in history. The original story was a “novella” written by Charles Dickens in 1843.

| plagiarize yourself |
Artists, musicians, painters, writers plagiarize themselves all the time. There's nothing wrong with it. After all, if your going to copy someone why not copy yourself!

I love all your posts Mr Dolan, I really do..But this one rubbed me a bit the wrong way. Though I do agree you can revamp a few things now and then I think the whole industry has gone revamp crazy, they are spending their money and time on things that have been done before. This is niether inspiring or working. Thats why Music is in a slump. we need the next LOu Reed, Bowie, Beatles..not another Miley soundalike..so I disagree with this refried beans approach...But I love your inspiring articles. So rock on...

Amazing Michael. You show up with inspiration and anything is possible. At least that is what I believe... and I'm not quitting.

First of all thanks for all the inspiring and thought-provoking posts this year JMD! Part of my personal enjoyment in creating is avoiding redundancy but I hope to create works that inspire others to be inspired, imitate, permutate and duplicate. Here's to a creative, productive and prosperous New Year for all us crazy creative people!

Since we are all a part of the Creator, which is everything in creation, it is always good to make time for re-creation. Happy Holy Days !!!

Its nice to be reminded ! This is a time of right brain power..we have to harness it and tweak it. No re-invention of the wheel needed sometimes. As my dogs would say : Fleas Navidad !

| Son Of A Bean! |
This is good, J. Michael, really good. And then there’s "Beans 2: The Sequel." The Return of the Beans, The Revenge of the Beans, The Last Bean, Son of a Bean. Artists paint a series, like “The White Paintings” or a study of subject matter, like Dega’s ballerinas. It’s done all the time by the Masters. Apple computers came in all different colors, but the same computer. Explore and exhaust the possibilities of one great thing. Take it to its limits and then beyond. Thank you Michael, and Merry Christmas to you!

Yup thatís the code word: Refried Beans. This is so great. So many ways to reinvent an older idea or story or character or song. It just plain works. I hadnít thought about this option for so long, I am inspired to get in there and do some RE-Fryiní!

What a great inspiration! Express the same thing in different ways because just one may not appeal to everyone, but another version may. Merry Christmas to you Michael!
