What's a FB LIke worth?
One of my bandmates puts huge emphasis on gaining FB "likes" but I fail to see how that alone translates into better bookings for the band (a cover band) which is completely separate from my "original music" career. I'm forwarding him this post because the band's website is pathetically weak, IMHO.

Facebook Reality
Facebook makes it easy to feel as though you are doing something productive to promote your work when, in fact, you are not. If all people do is “Like” your page and, take no further action, you won’t have a career, but FB will! Having written that, the FB opportunity is in testing out if people will actually purchase what you do. It’s good for identifying a specific market. Once you know who they are you’ll need to convert them from FB to your personal/product site. Doing that is challenging.

MySpace replacement
If this post wasn't so true! Facebook only replaced MySpace, although more successfully, for treps and artists as their advertising platform. I use the term loosely. There are some benefits to certain biz models, but it is few and far between. I've been in web development for 15-years and I can guarantee your greatest success will not come from FB. If you won't pay for custom site development from a pro or at least build a site on the numerous platforms available, will you please buy a domain and use an email other than gmail, yahoo or (yes, they still exist)aol. If you're not willing to pay for your success why do expect someone else to pay for what you're selling.

Look at me
I think FB leveled the "look at me" playing field for everyone. Everyone is a braggart and exhibitionist at heart. Our hunger for approval , for people to like us and for connection-the lazy way. FB played up on this to the max and when they had our full attention, they tried to sell to us. I have 3 pictures of my dog on FB period. I refused to be sucked into for the sake of entertainment. I did end up buying their stock recently though.
