“When you can’t do what you do, you do what you can.” —Jon Bon Jovi
If you zoom out into the future, then turn around and look back, ask yourself these questions:
— What did I do every day while I was quarantined?
— What did I accomplish?
— How far did I advance my career? My business?
— What progress did I make?
— Did I sit at my computer, just clicking away, pretending to look busy?
— Did I reconnect with friends and family?
— Did I abandon anyone?
— What am I embarrassed about?
— What am I most proud of?
— How did I help? Who did I help?
— What would I do differently?
Important because the future is coming, and when it arrives there will be a few unanswered questions that we will have to reckon with, for the rest of our lives. That said, it might be a good idea to get a head start on the future today. Not because we want to defer accountability, more because inside all of us, there is a desire to do our best work, and at the same time make a difference in peoples lives. We all know that desire is there, because we can hear it…every day…screaming to get out!
