You can’t just hire someone or give the job to an already over-worked employee, or to a “promotion guy” or publicity department, then turn your back, walk away and expect them to do it all. That only gives you the opportunity to blame them for not getting it right. That’s not how it works. marketing your self or your hard work begins when the phone rings and someone answers it. Or an email is promptly responded to. Or someone asks you what you do. Or a fan is noticed and acknowledged. Or an unsatisfied customer becomes more than satisfied. It begins when your art, music, movie, book, blog, band, website, product or service lands in the hands of your fans and customers. What they do for you and say about you at that point is called “Marketing.”

“You can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do.” —Henry Ford
